Regional Representation:

Open registration - no limit on the number of athletes from each region.

 If more than one person is using the same rifle, please notify the Regional Director by registration deadline.

Events

There will be two competitions of smallbore target shooting using Sporting Rifle and Hunter Rifle specifications.

·         Sporting Rifle: Defined as any .22 rim fire rifle designed for target shooting and that of which equipped with metallic sights, open or peep style only and meeting the Shooting Federation of Canada Sporting Rifle specifications. See definition Rule 7.

·         Hunter Rifle: Defined as any .22 rim fire rifle designed as a hunting type rifle, except semi-automatic. No semi-automatic rifles. Any sights include scopes and electronic sights, apart from laser sights. No laser sights. Scopes limiting to six power maximum. Variable scopes be, taped at six power maximum.

·         Ammunition: all ammunition will be .22 long rifles or short. No .22 magnum ammunition allowed.

 A rifle that is borderline Sporting Rifle or Hunter Rifle will have to be, rated before the start of the competition by Shoot Officials, and may only be, used for one competition. Please refer to the rules and regulations for further specifications.

Competitors may shoot both competitions using appropriate rifles.

Competitors (except the 8-12 age group who may shoot prone only) may shoot all five courses.

Shooting courses for the Sporting and Hunter Rifle competitions will be:

Three position courses will include one set of targets per position. Positions are prone, kneeling and standing.

The 50-meter sporting rifle events (B and E) will be first, followed by the 20-meters hunter rifle events (A and D), then the 100-meter hunter rifle event (C).

 The Southern Alberta Summer Games has Zero Tolerance and Harassment Policy. If a competitor, coach, guardian, parent, or spectator is abusive in any way towards officials, other competitors or volunteers will be immediately ejected from the competition event. If they are responsible for a under 18 competitors competing in the event, then youth would be disqualified and eliminated by default.

 

Rules and Regulations:

  1. Shooting Federation of Canada Sporting Rifle and Hunter Rifle Rules in effect, unless mention below.
  2. Every athlete must be able to always produce appropriate identification, to officials.
  3. Coaching on the Fireline is allowed at the discretion of the Chief Range Safety Officer/Match Director. Coaching allowed for under 18-year-old shooters must not interfere with other shooters.
  4. All shooters under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a coach/guardian who is at least 18 with a valid firearms license. They must remain at the event while the youth are participating in the event. Any young person left unattended can be disqualified and eliminated by default by the Chief Range Safety Officer/Match Director.
  5. All shooters and other people in the immediate vicinity of the Fireline must wear appropriate ear and eye protection. It is Mandatory and the responsibility of participant and coaches.
  6. Ear protection incorporating any type of receiving device is not permitted for shooters.
  7. Eye protection must be shatterproof shooter glasses or similar eye protection while on the range.
  8. Safety flags, rods or trimmer line must be inserted in firearms when not in use on the Fireline.
  9. All shooters must be present at least 30 minutes prior to the event starting time, indicated on the schedule. Anyone late, or not present when their name is called will be eliminated by default.
  10. Range safety rules and protocols of the host range will always be in effect.
  11. The Chief Range Safety Officer/Match Director has final on final rulings. Any shooter can be disqualified, at any time for infraction of range rules and or regulations.
  12. Athletes may not place their guns and equipment on their firing points until the Chief Range Officer has called the athletes on the line.
  13. There will be a ten-minute Preparation and Sighting Time with a 30 second delay before Match firing begins.
  14. Any coach/guardian can be asked to leave the range at any time for any infraction of rules and regulations by the Chief Range Safety Officer/Match Director. If responsible for an under 18-year-old competitor, the youth is disqualified and eliminated by default.
  15. All participants/coaches/guardians are expected to abide by all laws concerning firearms, transportation, storage, and handling of firearms.
  16. You must notify at the time of registration deadline if more than one shooter is using the same firearm. Maximum of two competitors per firearm.
  17. All ties will be, broken according to the Shooting Federation of Canada Sporting Rifle Rules.
  18. No slings are to be use
  19. The use of any special devices, means, or garments which immobilize or unduly reduce the movement of shooters’ legs, body, or arms is prohibited. Shooting jackets and shooting pants are not, allow
  20. Shooting gloves and shooting mats are, allowed.
  21. Competitors allow spotting scopes to view their targets.
  22. Trigger pull and gun weight must be verified before the competition start 

             a. Sporting Rifle:

    1. Gun weight - not more than 8.8 lbs. or 4.0 kg.
    2. Trigger pull - 1000g minimum.
    3. Other sporting rifle specifications are as per SFC rules.
    4. Hunter rifles may not be used in the sporting rifle competitions.

            b. Hunter Rifle:

    1. Gun Weight - any weight
    2. Trigger Pull - any safe weight.
    3. Sporting rifles may not be used in the hunter rifle competition
  23. Smallbore is defined as a .22 caliber rim fire capable of being single loaded.
  24. Only standard target velocity .22 ammo allowed (no high velocity).
  25. The height for targets shall be 75cm (+/- .50m). This measurement is taken from ground level to the center of the targets’ mass.
  26. There is a 30-minute time limit, including unlimited sighters in all 20 shot events.
  27. The event will start at 9:00 am and will progress throughout the day.
  28. Shooting courses will continue as soon as prior course is, completed.
  29. The Southern Alberta Summer Games has a Zero Tolerance Harassment Policy. If a competitor, coach, parent, or spectator is abusive in any way towards officials, other competitors, or volunteers, they will immediately be ejected from competition.

All registrations are made through your Regional Director, who will determine the Regional Deadline. The registration fee must also be submitted to your Regional Director. Signed consent forms must accompany the waivers.

No late registrations will be accepted.

Events will be cancelled if there are ___ or less individuals or teams registered. Should any event be cancelled due to lack of registration, the athletes being affected by the cancellation will be given an opportunity to re-register in another suitable category if the event is scheduled to run.
