Regional Representation:
Two (2) singles player per gender and age group, per region.
Two (2) doubles and mixed doubles teams per gender and age group, per region.
Fill players will be used to accommodate oversubscribed entries from some regions.
Format:
Round robin with playoffs for medals as needed, determined by the number of competitors.
Note: Any event may be pooled depending on the number of entries.
Rules and Regulations:
- Rules to be governed by the Badminton World
- All participants must be present at least 30 minutes prior to the event starting time indicated on the
- All participants must be available for both days when registering. The schedules may not be available until closer to the tournament dates, and may be subject to last mine modifications being made.
- Every athlete must be able to produce appropriate identification at all
- The Southern Alberta Summer Games has a Zero Tolerance Harassment Policy. If a competitor, coach, parent, or spectator is abusive in any way towards officials, other competitors, or volunteers, they will immediately be ejected from the competition- See also “Code of Conduct” rules.
- Green Band nylon shuttles will be used in all
- Players must supply their own rackets, shoes, and appropriate
- All events will be round robin format (depending on the number of participants).
- Typically the round robin play will be single games, first to twenty-one (21) All knock out rounds will be best of three games to 21 points (two point clear win).
- The Host Community Sport Chair reserves the right to change the tournament format to accommodate the number of participants.
Scoring System
Rally point scoring system to be used for all matches, singles and doubles.
- A match shall consist of the best of three games, unless otherwise
- A game shall be won by the side which first scores 21 points
- Every time there is a serve - there is a point
- The side winning a rally shall add a point to its A side shall win a rally, if the opposing side commits a ‘fault’ or the shuttle ceases to be in play because it touches the surface of the court inside the opponent’s court.
- If the score becomes 20-all, the side which gains a two point lead first, shall win that game (except for round robin games).
- If the score becomes 29-all, the side scoring the 30th point shall win that
- The side winning a game shall serve first in the next
Singles
- At the beginning of the game (0-0) and when the server’s score is even, the server serves from the right service When the server’s score is odd, the server serves from the left service court.
- If the server wins a rally, the server scores a point and then serves again from the alternate service
- If the receiver wins a rally, the receiver scores a point and becomes the new They serve from the appropriate service court - left if their score is odd, and right if it is even.
Doubles
- A side has only one ‘service’.
- At the beginning of the game and when the score is even, the server serves from the right service When it is odd, the server serves from the left court.
- If the serving side wins a rally, the serving side scores a point and the same server serves again from the alternate service
- If the receiving side wins a rally, the receiving side scores a The receiving side becomes the new serving side.
- The players do not change their respective service courts until they win a point when their side is
- If players commit an error in the service court, the error is corrected when the mistake is
Tie-Breaking Procedure
- If 2 players are tied, reit will be determined by a one game playoff to 21 points only.
- If there are 3 teams, the 2nd and 3rd ranked play and then immediately play 1st. If it is a 4 way tie, 1st vs 4th and 2nd vs 3rd, with winners playing.
Registration Deadline:
Registration Deadline as designated by your Regional Director
All registrations are done through your Regional Director, who will determine the Regional Deadline. The registration fee must also be submitted to your Regional Director. Signed consent forms must accompany the waivers.
No late registrations will be accepted.
Events will be cancelled if there are three or less individuals registered. Should any event be cancelled due to lack of registrations, the athletes being affected by the cancellation will be given an opportunity to re-register in another suitable category provided that event is scheduled to run.
Players may partner with a player from a different region (both have to be from within the Southern Alberta Region only), but both players must register both with one region only. Please contact the regional directors involved to ensure that are aware of players that are partnering with an out of region player.
Athlete Code of Conduct
As an athlete, I understand that my conduct reflects on my team, my sport, and the region I represent in the Southern Alberta Summer Games. I agree to abide by the following principles to ensure a safe, respectful, and positive environment for all participants:
- Respect and Integrity
- Treat all participants, including teammates, coaches, officials, and competitors, with dignity and respect.
- Refrain from any form of harassment, discrimination, or bullying.
- Sportsmanship
- Demonstrate fairness, respect for rules, and ethical behavior at all times.
- Accept outcomes with grace, avoiding public criticism of others.
- Refrain from the use of loud, distracting, profane, insulting, harassing or otherwise offensive language or sound.
- Safety and Responsibility
- Report injuries or medical conditions that may affect participation.
- Abstain from using prohibited substances or engaging in illegal activities.
- Refrain from any behavior that endangers others, including reckless driving or misconduct during travel.
- Professionalism
- Dress appropriately and maintain a professional demeanor.
- Compliance
- Follow all rules and guidelines set forth by the event organizers.
- Players, or any persons associated with a player (i.e. family members, coaches or friends) are expected to give due respect to the Volunteers, Officials, other players and any other persons associated with the Tournament. Misconduct, whether on or off the court, will result in penalties against the player.
By Registering to play, you acknowledge that violations of this Code may result in disciplinary actions, including removal from events or suspension from participation.
